1.Jump right in. didn’t think about it.

*tore apart old book

*used old canvas

2.wheat pasted/painted

3. get frustrated

4.add more layers

I really enjoyed this article. I love all kinds of street art, especially the kind that steps away from the usual art.

*Anything that makes me do a double take and anything that changes an environment in a positive way.

*The Windowzoo- yes! i love it. The idea of wild animals loose in the city reminds me of being a little kid.

*The “Robin Hood” one is hilarious

Reading this article and starting this new cluster makes me look at my surrounds even more for ideas. Or maybe even a place where I can do some street art. :)

What do I want to be when I grow up?

This is the question that so many people have struggled with from the first time they were asked as a child. Many people don’t give the question much thought, until one day they wake up and realize that whatever they may have hoped or dreamed to be is not what they are, and they begin to look back on their life and wonder what could have been done differently to get them from point A, childhood, to point B, what they wanted to be as an adult.

This final project is not just the answer but it is about the struggle I went through to find it. And though this is not my final answer because things change, this is a huge step towards “finding” my answer

“What do I want to be when I do grow up?”

This is the question that so many people have struggled with from the first time they were asked a child. Many people don’t give the question much thought, until one day they wake up and realize that whatever they may have hoped or dreamed to be is not what they are, and they begin to look back on their life and wonder what could have been done differently to get them from point A, childhood, to point B, what they wanted to be as an adult.

For many people, this question is not easily answered. Looking back, I don’t really remember my childhood answer. But now I am firmly convinced that my answer is “I want to be an artist.”

“I want to be an artist.” It is a simple declaration, but I went through Hell to get to that point. While knowing that I wanted to express myself to the world through art, the question became do I want to create art or do I want to restore art.

Until a couple of weeks ago I was convinced that I wanted to go to UW next year. UW offers classes that are unavailable to be at Cornish, classes that I need if I want to become an art restorationist. UW also offers the classes I need to hone my art skills. After some consideration, I began networking with professionals in the field of art restoration. The advice that I received was very informative, but the realization began to dawn on me that by restoring the artwork of others, I would have little time or energy to create my own. Since I had virtually committed myself to changing schools and pursuing a new path, I had delude myself into thinking that I would be okay with this.

After talking to other students about their artwork, and discussing it with one of my teachers, I started having second thoughts. While in my studio lecture, I looked down and my hands. They were covered in ink and paint from a project I had began the night before. At that moment something seemed to click for me. I knew I couldn’t give up creating my own artwork, I had decided to stay at Cornish. Restoration to preserve the artwork of others is fine for some, but I do not want to restore, I want to Create!

This final project is not just the answer but its about the struggle I went through.

so..so far im going with “what do i want to be when i grow up?”…easy answer=AN ARTIST!! going deeper into the question and finding a creative way to show my answer.. im looking at veins. Art is in my blood… both my parents drew and my grandmother was an awesome painter!

im looking at useing all sorts of things, wire, paint, and paper mache are just a few things.

What do I want to be when I grow up?

Sounds like a silly question but it is very serious. I have several ideas on how to approach this. First of all: mind mapping is a must. Second: wire and paper mache. Third: Im going to use pages in books and things I collect for the background. I have other ideas but I want to do some more research. I will revisit the wire sculpture artists such as: Susan Starkweather, Wendy Seaward, Roger Wheeler, Eliza Berrien, Jason Taylor (the artiest not the player) I will also reread“Fear and Art”. I plan on researching ways on making paper mache. Maybe even have poems and quotes that I believe relate to myself as an artist. I propose that this will go on an old canvas I have. It is to be hoped that what I put on it this time will be much better than its past. I want this final project to be a relief and extend off the edges of the canvas.

I am a huge fan of mixed media, so of course this work will have everything I love in it. I will be using wire, paper mache, paint, oil pastels, pages from books, and ink. I will probably add more but this is my list thus far.
